There's a reason striped NATO straps have been around for decades and show no signs of slowing down. Originally issued to British Ministry of Defence personnel in the 1970s, the NATO strap was designed to be tough, lightweight, and easy to swap. The striped versions? They came straight from regimental tradition — each unit had its own colour combination, worn with pride.
Then James Bond strapped one on in Goldfinger, and the rest is history. That iconic black and grey striped NATO strap became one of the most recognisable watch accessories on the planet. Today, a striped watch strap is the easiest way to add personality to any timepiece — whether you're channelling 007 or just want something that looks the part with your weekend outfit.
Our striped NATO straps are made from tightly woven nylon with polished or brushed hardware. They're comfortable from day one, dry quickly after a swim, and look better the more you wear them. No break-in period, no fuss.
Not sure where to start? Here are the stripe patterns our customers keep coming back for:
The black and grey NATO strap is our number one seller, and it's not hard to see why. It's the James Bond NATO strap — understated, versatile, and looks sharp on just about any watch. If you're buying your first striped NATO, this is the one.
A navy red NATO strap brings a bit of classic prep without trying too hard. Think rugby club meets dive watch. It pairs brilliantly with silver-toned cases and white dials.
Three stripes, loads of character. The tricolour is bold enough to be a statement piece but structured enough to avoid looking busy. Great on field watches and chronographs.
Sometimes called the "Goldfinger" strap, this is the OG Bond combo from the 1964 film. A proper conversation starter for watch nerds.
We carry dozens of stripe combos — from subtle grey-on-grey to bright racing-inspired patterns. Browse the full range above and find the one that suits your style.
One of the best things about a striped NATO strap is how easily it crosses the line between casual and smart-casual. Throw one on a Seiko diver or Timex Weekender for weekends, and it looks right at home. Pair a muted stripe with a Daniel Wellington or minimalist dress watch, and you've got something that works for the office too.

We stock striped NATO straps in all the popular lug widths:
Got an odd size like 19mm or 21mm? Go up to the next size. A 20mm strap fits a 19mm lug width perfectly — it just tucks in slightly. Same goes for 21mm watches with a 22mm strap.
A striped NATO strap is a one-piece nylon watch strap with two or more colour stripes woven into the fabric. It threads under the watch and has a secondary keeper loop for security — if one spring bar fails, the watch stays on your wrist. The design originated with British military watch straps in the 1970s.
The James Bond NATO strap traditionally refers to the black and grey striped combination worn by Sean Connery in Goldfinger (1964). Daniel Craig later wore a grey, black, and olive version in the modern Bond films. Our Bond NATO strap is our most popular seller — it's the classic look that started it all.
Measure the gap between your watch's lugs (where the strap attaches) in millimetres. Most watches are 20mm or 22mm. If you're between sizes, go up — a 20mm strap fits a 19mm lug width just fine. Check our Strap Finder if you're unsure.
Absolutely. A subtle two-tone stripe in muted colours (black/grey, navy/grey) looks surprisingly sharp on a dress watch. It won't suit a black-tie event, but for smart-casual and business-casual settings, it adds personality without being over the top.
Remove your existing strap, leave the spring bars in the lugs, and thread the NATO strap between the spring bars and the caseback. The long piece goes through first, then the short tail tucks through the keeper loops. Takes about 30 seconds — no tools needed beyond a spring bar tool to remove the old strap.
